Courtney has spent the past eight years working as a school based speech-language pathologist, gaining experience working with students from pre-k through 8th grade. She has provided services to students with Autism, Down Syndrome, Apraxia of Speech, Phonological Processing and Fluency disorders.
Courtney is a graduate of the University of Central Arkansas, moving from Arkansas to Kansas seven years ago. She loves exploring the area and cheering on the local sports teams. Her favorite part of being a speech language pathologist is seeing students communicate more easily with others as a result of their hard work in speech.
Favorite children’s book: Spookley the Square Pumpkin
Favorite play based therapy activity: Little People and Barbies
Best moment as a clinician: When students master their goals and become more effective communicators.
Funniest moment as a clinician: When I pulled a 1st grader for speech and she kindly told me that if I would just leave her in her classroom she'd be able to get a lot more work done.
Why did you become a speech-language pathologist? I love the variety of work our field provides as well as the impact it has on the people I treat. Being in the schools, I have worked with a lot of articulation clients and it is always fun to see the excitement in both them and their parents when they finally master a sound.
